Abbey Road on the River

If you're a fan of the Beatles, make sure you head downtown this weekend to check out the highly-anticipated Abbey Road on the River concert series. This concert series has gained popularity over the years, starting in Louisville over Memorial Day weekend and ending in Washington D.C. over Labor Day weekend. In addition, this year fans can look forward to a free concert this coming Friday!
Fourth Street Live is being blocked off for the initial concert to kick off Beatlemania and will feature performers such as Canada's Hal Bruce, England's Meet the Beatles and Italy's The Brothel Creepers. The free concert begins at 11:45 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.. This is just the start of the weekend though! The concert series continues all weekend, through Monday, and features first year guests such as Jefferson Starship, as well as veterans like All You Need Is Love. This should be a great event that honors the music and spirit of The Beatles!

Celebrate Louisville by Participating in the Hometown Tourist Celebration

Even though Derby is over, locals still have a lot to look forward to! All throughout the month of May, the city has been encouraging local Kentucky and Indiana residents to become tourists in their own hometown as part of the Hometown Tourist Celebration. This is a perfect opportunity for residents who still haven't had the chance to see the quintessential Louisville attractions, such as plays at Actor's Theatre and the Frazier Arms Museum.

Locals can look forward to 2-for-1 discounts at over 42 area attractions, a dozen restaurants, and 10 hotels. In addition, there are half a dozen events that are free to the public. One of these events is being extended all the way through October and is called PossibiliTours Walking Tours. The walking tour is held on Friday and Sundays at 10:30 and Saturdays at 2:00, featuring a local volunteer leading you on a free, one hour tour exploring downtown Louisville.
This month long event is being held in conjunction with the Travel Industry Association's Annual National Tourism Week and offers are valid for anyone with a Kentucky or Indiana ID, local college ID, or military ID.

The Fourth Annual Buy Local First Fair

Most people who've been around Louisville for any period of time have probably seen the local saying on a bumper sticker or billboard, "Keep Louisville Weird". This adage was developed as the Buy Local movement began moving into Louisville, encouraging residents and visitors alike to shop locally to help boost the local economy. The Fourth Annual Buy Local First Fair is being hosted by the Louisville Independent Business Alliance, the Louisville Visual Arts Association and Grasshoppers Distribution at The Watertower on River Road.

This unique event is a celebration of locally owned and operated businesses such as restaurants, boutiques, breweries, galleries and much more. The feel of the fair will be similar to a farmer's market, with booths that display local art, handmade treasures, and a variety of different foods! In addition, there will also be live music, a "Top Chef" competition, a kids' area, craft beer and raffle.

The 2012 Taste of Derby

As the 2012 Kentucky Derby quickly approaches, many Louisvillians are spending their evenings leading up to the big day at Derby-themed events. One of these such events is happening on Thursday, May 3rd - the Taste of Derby.

This event is a celebration of fine cuisine, racing and style where attendees mingle with horse racing celebrities while sampling delectable foods that are prepared by chefs from not just Louisville, but horse racing destinations across the country! Several nationally known chefs pair their signature dishes with wines that they think compliment their dish as well.

To make this event even more fun, this year's live entertainment will also be provided by Burning Las Vegas! Additionally, part of the proceeds from Taste of Derby will be donated to hunger relief organizations. The event is held at The Louisville Executive Aviation Hanger at Bowman Field and begins at 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 3rd.
