Warrior Dash 2012

The Warrior Dash is taking place this weekend in Lebanon, Kentucky and is a thrilling 5K running race with obstacles, including jumping over fire and crawling through mud with barbed wire! Each race involves at least twelve obstacles along with a 5K course followed by a festival with live music, turkey legs and beer steins!

This event began in 2006 in Chicago under the name, Great Urban Race, but was eventually changed in 2009 to Warrior Dash. The first official Warrior Dash was held in Joliet, IL in 2009 with 2,000 participants and because of the popularity of the event, spread across the United States in 2010 with 11 events and over 150,000 participants.

When their designated wave time begins, runners will run roughly 5K and complete at least twelve obstacles before reaching the finish line. Finishers receive a finisher medal, snack and water.
After the race, runners are treated to beer and food, including turkey legs! Live music is also apart of the festival with several bands performing throughout the day. In addition, there are several awards presented to participants, including Best Warrior Beard and Best Costume.

Louisville Named "Most Livable" City

Congratulations are in order for the city of Louisville! Louisville has just been named the "Most Livable" city by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in the large city category, along with West Palm Beach in the small city division.
Cities have been competing for this award for 33 years and is sponsored by the Conference of Mayors and Waste Management, Inc.. The award recognizes mayoral leadership in developing and implementing programs that improve the quality of life in each city. In addition, cities are chosen based on leadership, creativity, and innovation and how these qualities are demonstrated by the mayor.
The reasons Louisville was chosen included the pledge of Mayor Fischer to make Louisville a more caring city by signing a resolution committing to a multi-year compassionate Louisville campaign. This campaign included a "Give A Day" week challenging the community to help Louisville set the world's record for volunteering and public service. This week coincided with the Kentucky Derby Festival and led people to engage in volunteer actions from writing letters to troops, to reading to homeless children, to donating food and clothing.
