St. James Court Art Show 2012

The St. James Art Show is being held October 5th-7th this year and is sure to be another huge hit! The show is a juried fine arts and fine crafts show that hosts an 750 artists from North America.The event is held in the heart of historic Old Louisville, which features the country's largest collection of Victorian homes.

The beloved art show was founded on October 12, 1957 by Malcolm Bird, the St. James Court Association president. Initially, music was a part of the Art Show as well, including special programs of chamber music, choral performances and big band concerts. The Art Show also provided an opportunity to celebrate the history of St. James Court.
When Ann Higbie and Oscar Stremmel succeeded Malcolm Bird as Art Show organizers, they volunteered countless time and energy managing the show from 1968 to 1992. These were the two people that were responsible for bringing the St. James Art Show to gain national recognition, specifically for a focus on handcrafted art and an increased revenue.
Today, the Art Show is directed by Margue Esrock and welcomes more than 300,000 attendees! This year's event is sure to be outstanding as always, as residents and friends of Old Louisville prepare to delights attendees with beautiful art!

ColorFest at Bernheim

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is holding it's seventeenth annual ColorFest October 20th and 21st. The event promises to be affordable family fun set in the beauty of fall at Bernheim!


Families can enjoy nature-related activities for kids, live entertainment, including a set from Bernheim Horticulturist Casey Hammett, refreshments from the Bernheim Grill, as well as tons of outdoor activities for all! Colorfest is the kick-off for the 5th Annual Scarecrow Jubilee where Scarecrows, that are created by friends and visitors, grace the arboretum to be on display between October 20 - November 15.

Just a few of the events that were available to visitors last year were pumpkin painting, hayrides, a Tai Chi demonstration, nature crafts, face painting, discovery stations featuring birds of prey, great food, a rope bridge, a hay maze and a Kentucky craft artists booth! As you can see, there is clearly something for everyone to find interest in at this fall festival!

Wicked at The Kentucky Center


Wicked is back in Louisville and many fans are excited for the Broadway musical's next go-around at The Kentucky Center! The musical originated on Broadway and has traveled around the world, charming critics and audiences alike. The play has won 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards and The New York Times has deemed Wicked, "Broadway's biggest blockbuster" and "the defining musical of the decade".


The story of Wicked is the prologue to the beloved classic The Wizard of Oz and tells a tale of two girls that meet in the land of Oz. One of them is born with emerald green skin and is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The second, is beautiful, ambitious and extremely popular. Wicked narrates how these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. USA Today says this story line makes for "the most complete - and completely satisfying - new musical in a long time"!

Princess Diana: A Celebration at the Frazier Arms Museum in Louisville

An exhibit celebrating the remarkable life of Princess Diana of Wales has made it's way to the Frazier Arms Museum in downtown Louisville. The exhibit invites viewers to experience the life and humanitarian work of one of the most remarkable women of the 20th century. Straight from England, there are nine galleries with over 150 objects, including Diana's famous royal wedding gown, 28 designer dresses, family heirlooms, personal mementos, diamond tiaras, priceless jewels and rare home movies.

The series illustrates her life and encourages visitors to share in the milestones of her many roles: as a child; the shy kindergarten teacher who captured the heart of the Prince and the public; the young, stunning royal bride; as the devoted mother, sister and daughter; and as the tireless charity advocate and spokeswoman.
Additionally featured in the exhibit, are the Spencer family jewels, heirlooms, paintings, artifacts, photos and portraits of her ancestors. Home movie footage include scenes filmed by her father during her childhood, her engagement to Prince Charles and the events leading up to the Royal wedding. Items from the widely known Royal wedding include her gown, diamond tiara, veil and 25-ft. train, as well as her shoes, parasol and bridemaid's dress.

2012 Downtown Living Tour
