Holidays Around the World at The Frazier History Museum

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the traditional holiday scene, the one that you have grown accustomed to for much of your life. Occasionally though, it's nice to experience a tradition that is unlike your own and that is exactly what the Frazier History Museum is hoping for this holiday season.

"Holidays Around the World" is an annual, multi-cultural tree display that celebrates holiday traditions found throughout Louisville's diverse communities! These traditions include trees decorated as they would in countries that observe Christmas, to cultural displays showcasing other holidays observed around the globe throughout the year. Both visually stunning and educational, this exhibit runs through New Years!

Louisville is 2013's Top Travel Destination

This week Louisville was named by travel gurus at Lonely Planet as the top travel destination of 2013! What led to their decision? They called Louisville "a lively, offbeat cultural mecca on the Ohio River"!

Possibly dubbing Louisville the "new Portland", Lonely Planet has pinpointed the East Market District or Nulu as a prime reason for visiting the city, with it's converted warehouses used as local breweries, antique shop and the city's coolest restaurants!

The other area of our beloved city that received a shout out? Although not surprising, but still exciting, Bardstown Road was mentioned for being a hipster strip of shops and bars! Bourbon was also a contributing factor, citing the Urban Bourbon Trail for bourbon's current wave of popularity!

The Dance Theatre of Harlem

The Dance Theatre of Harlem is back and is starting their new tour at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts! After eight years off the road, the legendary group has picked the Possibility City for the opening night of the tour, Saturday, Oct. 20th.
The Dance Theatre of Harlem was founded in 1969 following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and was inspired by "the power of art to transform". The initial goal of the founders, Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook,  was to start a school to teach children, especially those in Harlem, about dance and the arts. The company began with African-American dancers that were excluded from other troupes because of their skin color.
With the slogan, "Using the Arts to Ignite the Mind", the show will roll into the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts this coming Saturday with tickets starting at $22.50. The show is appropriate for all ages and DTH will invite local children to join them onstage during the program!
